Apprentice Training Curriculum
The Serve Academy Electrical Apprenticeship Program combines online learning, classroom instruction, hands-on training, leadership development, and real-world field experience to prepare apprentices for a successful career as a licensed journeyman electrician. Over four years, apprentices develop the technical knowledge, practical skills, and leadership abilities needed to excel both in the field and in their careers.
The Four Year Journey

Introduction to the NEC
Basic electrical theory
Outcome
Develop the safe work habits and foundational skills required for success in the electrical trade. -
Focus: Applying code, theory, and installation practices.

NEC Chapters 1–3
DC and AC electrical theory
Branch circuits, feeders, and services
Structured cabling (CAT 6)
Digital multimeters
Large conductor installations
Powered conduit bending
Outcome
Confidently apply electrical theory, National Electrical Code requirements, and practical installation skills. -
Focus: Industrial electrical systems and leadership.

Grounding and bonding
Load calculations
Motors and motor controls
Construction drawings
Transformers
Overcurrent protection
Hydraulic conduit bending
Industrial installations
Outcome
Install, troubleshoot, and interpret commercial and industrial electrical systems. -
Focus: Preparing for the Michigan Journeyman Electrician Examination.

Code Class
This class aims to take the confusion and intimidation out of the NEC NFPA 70 Electrical Code.

Electrical Theory
This course teaches the basics of electricity—how it's generated, used, and calculated—so you can understand circuit behavior and how electricity flows back to its source.

Safety is our top priority. Each class, we deep dive on a specific safety topic and do hands-on practice.
